On behalf of the entire Toms River Police Department Family, we’d like to wish Detective Ruger Hull a wonderful retirement!
Detective Ruger Hull grew up in South Toms River and graduated Toms River High School South in 1990. He then went on to attend Ramapo College of New Jersey. In 1993, Detective Hull graduated Ocean County Police Academy, and was hired by South Toms River Police Department where he worked in patrol, was a Traffic Safety Officer, and part of the Ocean County Arson Task Force. In 1994, Detective Hull graduated Ocean County College with AS in Criminal Justice. He received the Valor Award from the 200 Club/ Valor-STR Police and Fire Combat Cross from Ocean County Fire Marshal Office for rescue of family of seven from structure fire. In 1999, he was promoted to Detective.
In June of 2000, Detective Hull was hired by (Dover) Toms River Police Department where he worked in Patrol and was a Field Training officer. Detective Hull was a founding member of the TRPD Special Enforcement Team, or SET, in 2005. In 2012, he was promoted to Detective and went back to the Arson Task Force, which is part of the Burglary West Unit.
Throughout his career, Detective Hull received several Meritorious Service Awards the Toms River Police Department and MOCIB Merit Award for leading multi-state investigation of violent gang involved in home invasion robberies and homicide. In 1991 he became a member of the Beachwood Fire Department and is currently their Chief. In 2019, Detective Hull received the honor of being named “Beachwood Citizen of Year”. He is serving as Ocean County Manager to NJ Fireman’s Home.
