On behalf of the entire Toms River Police Department Family, we’d like to wish Detective Detective Tom Grosse a wonderful retirement!
Dates of Service: January 30, 1995 – December 1, 2020
Detective Grosse began his career with the then Dover Twp. Police Department in January of 1995. Later this same year he became a Networks officer, presenting safety programs to 5th and 6th grade students. In 2001 Detective Grosse became a Defensive Tactics instructor at the Ocean County Police Academy eventually becoming a four-time recipient of the academy’s Instructor of the Year award. He additionally served as a police department instructor for Defensive Tactics, Pursuit Policy, Use of Force, and Verbal Judo. He served as his union’s treasurer for 7 years and was an advisor to the department’s Explorer program.
Detective Grosse served as a Field Training Officer responsible for conducting background investigations and training new officers. Additionally, Detective Grosse has served as a consultant and contributor to the Russian television program, Criminal Chronicles. In 2014, Detective Grosse was promoted to the rank of Detective, fulfilling a lifelong dream where he was initially assigned to investigate burglaries then transferred to the bureau’s Special Victims’ Unit. In 2017 Detective Grosse proudly represented his department by competing in and winning the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Dancing With Our Stars competition.
He says his time with the Toms River Police Department has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of his life.
Detective Grosse is currently serving his third term as a Councilman in Berkeley Twp. and is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Kelly of 25 years and 2 children, Tommy and Olivia who is a freshman at Stockton State University.
