Patrolman Daniel Herr was born and raised in Toms River NJ. After graduating Toms River High School East in 1997, he continued his education at Ocean County College where he earned an Associate Degree in Science. Shortly thereafter, Daniel enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served as an Aids to Navigation Technician on the Coast Guard Cutter William Tate out of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Daniel started his Police Career as a Class 1 Officer in Seaside Heights NJ during the summer of 2000. After the events of 9-11, Daniel joined the New York City Police Department in 2002 where he was ultimately assigned to the Impact Unit in the confines of the 67th Precinct/East Flatbush Brooklyn. Also Daniel worked along the Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit and Anti-Crime Unit. In the Fall of 2003, Daniel was called to Active Duty in Response to the September 11 attacks in support of Operations Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom where numerous citations were awarded during that time. After being discharged from Active Duty, Daniel continued his service in the NYPD in the confines of the 68 Precinct/Bay Ridge Brooklyn. Daniel vested/retired from the NYPD in the spring of 2007 after over five years of service and earning two Meritorious Police Awards and two Excellence in Police Duty Awards along with Unit Citations and various awards from the New York Senate, Kings County Congressman’s Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation and the Marine Corps League Certificate of Appreciation.
Patrolman Daniel Herr was appointed as a Police Officer in August 2007 with the Toms River Police Department and graduated the Ocean County Police Academy Class 89 in February of 2008. In May of 2008, Daniel was assigned to the Underwater Response Team where he attended the Rapid Deployment Search, Rescue and Recovery course and Surface Ice Rescue Course. In March of 2012, Daniel was assigned to the Toms River Police Emergency Service Unit with a specialty as an Overwatch/Sniper. Daniel attended the National Tactical Officers Association SWAT Operators Course in Watertown NJ shortly after being assigned to the Emergency Services Unit. Daniel had further attended and graduated the FBI Sniper Training School located at Fort Dix NJ in October of 2012 and continued his service on the ESU Team and Underwater Response Team. In December of 2019, Daniel attended the New Mexico Tech Initial Law Enforcement Response to Suicide Bombing Attacks located in Playas New Mexico. Furthermore, during his employment as a Toms River Police Officer, Daniel was qualified with the Less than Lethal Launcher and assigned as a Field Training Officer.
During his career, Patrolman Herr has been awarded the Toms River Police Merit Awards in November of 2013 and 2014, Firearms Proficiency Award Distinguished Expert and Officer of the Month for February 2012.
